The SHC ordered Sindh Govt. to submit reply till 10th September on the non-payment of dues of newspapers
KARACHI – August 24, 2020: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has extended the deadline for submission of reply till 10 September 2020, during the hearing of writ petition filed by the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) against Sindh Government for non-payment of dues to Newspapers and Periodicals.
Dr. Jabbar Khattak the Secretary General of CPNE said that newspapers and periodicals have not been paid since January 2019 till June 2020 with their dues of more than Rupees 34 crores. Due to which Journalists and other workers are also in dire financial straits.
The lawyers of the petitioner have requested the Hon’ble Court to bound the Sindh Information Department to pay outstanding dues of newspapers and periodicals immediately so that the journalists and other workers including the news agencies can avoid financial troubles.
On this occasion, the Sindh Information Department requested that they required time to submit their reply, on which the court of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Syed Yusuf Ali of the Sindh High Court granted time till September 10 to file their reply.
CPNE was followed by Advocates Syed Mohammad Jamil Raza Zaidi and Mohammad Azhar Faridi. CPNE General Secretary Dr Jabbar Khattak was also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, a contempt of court hearing against the Sindh government will also be held on September 24.
