KARACHI – April 12, 2021: The Council of Newspaper Editors (CPNE) on Monday expressed deep grief and sorrow at the passing away of Mr. I. A. Rehman – a journalist par excellence, a staunch fundamental rights defender and a humanist to the core.
Terming his demise as a great setback suffered by Pakistani media at the present juncture in its struggle to uphold the freedom of press, CPNE President Arif Nizami and Secretary General Dr. Jabbar Khattak said in Mr. I. A. Rehman’s demise free speech has lost one of its voracious protagonists.
They eulogized his services, spanning almost the entire history of our nation, in the fields of journalism and human rights. He epitomized the forces of conviction and dedication in his writings and actions, unwaveringly standing up against bigotry, extremism, injustice and bias.
They said Mr. I. A. Rehman will always be remembered with admiration and love for his gentle nature, humble demeanor and passionate world view.
Mr. Nizami and Mr. Khattak expressed their heartfelt condolences to the Rehman’s family, his colleagues, friends and admirers for their irreparable loss.
