NEWS ITEM

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday directed the provincial authorities to ensure clearance of newspaper advertisement dues owed to the CPNE-member organizations by June 7, 2021.

Barring compliance, contempt proceedings will be initiated against the erring government departments from June 9, 2021, the court warned.

The directive was issued by an SHC division bench, comprising Mr. Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar and Mr. Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, during the hearing of a contempt of court application moved by the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors.

The court expressed extreme displeasure over the junior level representation by the provincial departments of information and finance.

The Honourable Judges ordered the respective secretaries to ensure their presence at the next hearing.

Earlier, the Director Information (Advertisements), Mr. Imtiaz Joyo, submitted to the court that the outstanding bills would be positively cleared by June 7, 2021.

CPNE was represented by advocates, Mr. Jamil Raza Zaidi and Mr. Mohammad Azhar Faridi.
